Philosophy

Brooks & Koola is built on a philosophy that timeless design and quality go hand in hand when you want to evolve your personal style. Less is more. We value beautiful details, the way a garment is sewn, and create modern wardrobe essentials that offers affordable luxury to the modern woman. Produced with respect for our planet and the artists who makes our pieces here in Europe.

How it all started

Danish native Anne Henriksen started Brooks & Koola with a vision of creating a permanent womenswear line that values quality and longevity over trends. Brooks & Koola is about long-term thinking and learning how to prioritise. Inspired by travel, Brooks & Koola takes its name from Anne's former addresses; Brooks Road in London and Koola Street in Brisbane.

“It all started with a book, Parisian Chic by Ines de la Fressange. At the time of reading the book I had just moved from England to sunny Australia. I had moved country three times within five years and each time I could only bring what would fit in my suitcase, it taught me to prioritise. I was inspired by the philosophy behind Parisian Chic. It’s the idea that every woman should have a few key pieces which she builds her wardrobe from. It’s about quality and longevity.”

The Design

The design takes inspiration from the simplicity and elegance that characterizes our Danish design heritage, and it treasures the old traditions of European quality and craftsmanship.

“I want these pieces to look good for a long time, so my customers don’t have to buy new all the time. I’m a big believer in buy less and buy well.”

Our goal is that you will cherish your Brooks & Koola garment for years to come. For us, the most sustainable approach one can take to a wardrobe is to focus on timeless design and quality. The longer you can enjoy your garments the better. That’s why we focus on designs that are timeless and ageless. Without seasons and made to last.

True mother-of-pearl buttons are created from the inner layer of oyster pearl and recognized for their iridescent shine, making them the perfect finishing touch to compliment a pure silk shirt.

Everyone Deserves a Little Luxury

"In Denmark we have an understanding that everyone has a right to beautiful surroundings, this idea has been a continued inspiration throughout my process in building the collection. A little luxury should be obtainable to all, and not reserved for the few. That's why I made the decision to sell direct-to-you and forego the traditional retail mark-up. Ensuring that you get the most for your money, without compromising the quality."

Humanity

Not only do we want to deliver a product to you that we can feel proud of, but we also want to ensure that the artists who made your garment can live a healthy and balanced life. That is why we have chosen to keep all production within Europe.

The Scandinavian way of life is built on a solid belief that we all have the right to a good life. Having our collection made in Europe, where working conditions are regulated, also means that the artisans who made your garment are fairly compensated for their skills.

Sustainability

The current fashion market is saturated with fast merchandise and an increasing number of seasonal releases, to combat this, Brooks & Koola has opted for a core collection where new styles will only gradually be added, to ensure quality and longevity.

We create classic designs with a quality that will stand the test of time. We spend months sourcing the right silk textiles with the highest quality available. Combining timeless design and high quality ensures that your Brooks & Koola garment has a longer lifetime and can be treasured for years to come.

Take Care

To enjoy your Brooks & Koola piece for a long time, it’s important that you take good care of it. Maintaining silk is not difficult but it does take some knowledge. Don’t worry, you’ll soon get the hang of it. Steam is the easiest way to keep your silk garment fresh.

Working with a steamer is great for smoothing out wrinkles, and it removes most bacteria and odours. We recommend using a professional dry-cleaning service when needed. If you wish to hand-wash your garment, please be careful not to wash warmer than 30 degrees Celsius, and make sure you use a specialised laundry detergent made for silk. Avoid wringing the fabric when hand-washing and do lay the garment flat to dry. Silk is a natural fibre and should be stored in breathable, sealed bags to prevent moths from damaging the fabric.
